Is a German Shepherd right for a Georgia home?
Two things worth thinking about honestly before you apply. Summers here are long and humid, and German Shepherds carry a double coat. That is manageable — exercise early and late, shade and water always available, and never a shaved coat, which damages the insulation that keeps them cool. But it does mean the middle of a July afternoon is not the time for a long run.
The second is space and work. These are working dogs. A fenced yard helps enormously, but what matters more is that someone in the household has time and interest in training. A bored German Shepherd finds its own job, and you rarely like the job it picks.
